Paper Towel Curls

On my never ending quest to get curly hair with less effort, I saw on Pintrest a new and cheap way to do it. Overnight no heat paper towel curls.

What you need:

Strong and thick paper towel, each square cut into thirds
Spray bottle with water
Sleep

Divide the sections and spray a little water on them. Roll them up with the paper towel.

OMG!!!! It came out crazy!!!!!

Fixed with a little water, hairspray and using a curling wand on my fringe and roots to even it out.

These curls lasted about 3 days. It was awesome!

My Latest Sewing Projects

BABY SHOWER

My cousin Krystle is having a baby. She is super excited about it and so is the whole family. Seeing as I love making things, I wanted to make her something that was not only really cute, but unique. Something that no other baby would have.

So a friend from work reminded me how much I love embellishing things and said why don't I pimp up some baby bibs.

GENIUS!!!

So, I bought a pack of plain terry towel bibs, some cute ribbon and some felt. This is what I made

FREAKING CUTE

Handmade tag cards... weeeee

SHOULDER CAPED TOPS

I had a bunch of pink satine lying around and I wondered what magic I could make with it. I remembered seeing this top with the caped shoulders and essentially it was just a singlet with a peplum sewed at the shoulders. This was too easy!

I want to make a ruffled version like this Top Shop wonder

I bought Burberry-esque coloured fabric from the UK. From which I made this!

I love it! The top is so fun to wear and it makes a great casual eating top hehehe You can eat and eat and not look like you have a food baby. WIN!

SEWED COLLARS

Wearing a detachable collar/collar necklace is all the rage now and I'm totally obsessed. From a pattern I found online, I made these!

Let's make things sparkly!

Over the past month, when my newest Ebay purchase came in, I went a little nuts. I was gluing sparkly diamontes of every shape and colour onto almost every boring thing in the house.

Nerd Glasses

I have about 400 pairs of plain wayfarers. I dont need glasses but I LOVE WEARING THEM! Even as a child, mum would buy sunglasses only for me to push out the tinted lenses and walk around with my nerd goggles on!

This is the finished result:

LOVE!

Speaking of nerd glasses... I saw these on Etsy made by LizGlizz and I freaking love these! Handpainted!

SPARKLEY BROGUES

I picked up these plain bad boys from Kmart for $10. It's crazy how cheap the shoes are there. Plain shoes range from $3-$9 which is perfect because I bejewel and paint them anyway.

What do you think? I love them!

MORE SPARKLEY SHOES?

Bought these plain flats from Kmart and I wanted to use my new Mod Podge to add a glittered toe. So, with a little masking tape, chunky purple glitter and MORE DIAMONTES.. i made these! These are the first ones ive ever made and are a little dodgy. I will put up better how-to's when I do a better job hahaha

They're still fun and people at work loved them

What I want to buy... RIGHT NOW!

Here are a few things that I have been dreaming about owning lately... however, my wallet says no.

ORANGE LIPSTICK

Orange lipstick is all over the catwalks this upcoming season and its awesome! I have to go blue based because I don't want my teeth to look too yellow, which is the unfortunate byproduct of orange lippy. With this, have pale cheeks but heavy mascara. You can't go too crazy on the eyeshadow colour however, so keep it simple with light browns. I am totally loving the fishtail and high volume braid of this chick... so jealous...

MARIO KART 7 FOR NINTENDO DS

I love playing my nintendo DS. I love the look from the people on the bus as they wonder why a 28 year old is playing Animal Crossing on her way to work. Mario Kart 7 has just come out and it's time to go back to my childhood and take to the racing tracks. Go Toad! He was definitely the coolest... and i hate those damn green and blue shells! Boooo! The boyfriend just recently obtained a nintendo WiiU for his christmas present. I love playing Yoshi's fruit cart and that Zelda-esk game on it. Soooo fun!!! I cant wait to play Mario Kart on it!

ANIMAL CROSSING!!

COOKWARE & BAKEWARE

The Nigella in me told me that I should get this soon. I have a griddle pan at the moment, but I need one that is small enough to chuck into the oven. The one I have right now is too wide.

The one I have

The one I want!

Bakeware wise, I really love cute things. Recently I made steamed cupcakes (no oven needed) and decorated them like so

Arent they so cute??? The batter itself had no sugar (ideal for those clean eaters) and they are dairy free too.

So, while I was in the domestic mood, I googled Cake Decorating... bad mistake. Here's what I want nowwwwwwwww

I wants it!

BLACKMILK LEGGINGS

I have been obsessed with leggings from Day Dot! The whole leggings with oversized shirt... SO ME! I recently purchased amazing Blackmilk leggings. I bought two star wars prints and one lord of the rings print. They are awesome and I get people staring at them all the time!

So, I went on their website recently and fell in deep fashion love with these bad boys

These are the Black Milk Mermaid leggings... want... nowwwww

Below are things that I want right now but can make! WEEEE!!!!

My Latest Obsessions...

Big Volume Up-do's

After a lifetime of short hair and medium length hair that was never styled/attended to, almost out of nowhere I have this overnight obsession with updo's. My hair is now at the tip of my shoulder blades and I have been going crazy with plaits, teasing and beachy waves. I would like to consider this as a good addiction though...

So my quest for wavy hair had begun....

I had seen on eBay and YouTube this crazy invention called the Curlformers. Automatically I thought, anything that sounds like Transformers has to be awesome right? So, for about $16 I bought curlformer's cheap identical cousin from China and got started that very night.

Problems.... My hair wasnt staying wavy/curly

The Scientist in me had to figure this out. Scientific method style. I needed this conundrum busted! The Asian in me hated spending money on something that didn't work.

CURLFORMERS! More than meets the eyeeeeeee

First night:
Wet hair
No product
Kept on for 4 hours
Result: Waves that lasted 15 minutes!

Second night:
Wet hair
Curl mousse
Kept on for about 5 hours
Result: Wavy hair that lasted about an hour

Third night... getting a bit tired of it but gained some amazing application skills:
Wet hair
Curl Mousse
Slept in overnight
Result:
OHHH MYYY GODDDDD

Result! Beautiful crazy wavy and curly hair that I was amazed with. Had the worst sleep in sleep history but it worked! Everytime I turned in bed, the Curlformer poked me horribly in the eye. All in the name of beauty right!

Here's the sad part... My hair was almost straight by the time I got to work at 8am!!! They lasted literally 2 hours! I was devastated!!!!! My hair was a little wavy by lunchtime and by the end of work I had messy straight hair. I was rocking the homeless woman look.

CURLFORMERS TAKE TWO!

Last night I was focused to getting these working. So with dry hair, I started. I grabbed a water spray bottle and only used a couple squirts on each hair length so it was barely wet. I think this is what was the problem. My hair was too wet all the time.

So... Here are the results!

The sleep was so bad. But the curls were so much better because of the dryness of the hair.

SO.... option two for better sleep?

Ye old rags! Minus the rags hehe

DORK!!

How I Did it:
Jumped out of the shower. Applied mousse. Wrapped them tight and then wound them close to the scalp. I kept them gathered with hair ties as I had no rags handy. (was sleeping at the bf's)

Sleep was good. Definitely better than the Curlformers Sleep!

Result:

After a good spritz of sea salt spray... I had messy defined beach hair. EVERYONE at work loved it. After a good scrunching I had awesome volume and it was nice and textured. Not curly, but had a nice crink to it.

PLAIT CITY!

Going on Pintrest almost every 5 seconds to the hour, i've gotten a little obsessed with plaited updo's. Now that my hair is getting longer, I can manage the super cute styles that we are seeing everywhere! They are very trendy and are good for second day dirty hair. Now here's the tricky part. Get someone to do it (working on teaching the bf) OR be double jointed and crazy freaky with "back of head" eyes.

Upstyle #1 (and so far the only one i've managed. LOL@bf taking the pic)

I have no patience and I get annoyed when things don't look like how they are on pictures. I was pretty happy with this but because my hair was so clean, the pins didn't stay in well and the plaits kept sliding down.

VOLUMEEEE

I have a lot of hair but its quite thin. So I have to do a lot of teasing to get anything that looks like this:

I really love this look. So... when I was at the shopping centre today I saw this at Gloss. It's a small shop that has cheap and affordable priced cosmetics, bags, eye contacts, jewelry and hair accessories. I saw this bad boy and went OMFG! It was $6!!

No, your eyes are not fooled. It really is this big. Almost as big as a lunch plate.

On Monday I will be putting this giant on and I will take loads of pictures!

Now to another addiction:

Peri Peri Chicken

I don't know what it is. The juiciness of the chicken... the spicyness of it... The blackened bits of salty goodness? Urggghhh.... So amazing! Usually I have to stumble by Nandos to get my peri peri fix but not tonight guys!

Throw it in the oven for 25 minutes... I added extra hot sauce but they were packaged pre marinated awesome winglets from Mount Barker chicken. The best thing about this is that its just chicken with a spicy marinade. The marinade has next to nothing sugar in it (like those bbq and teriyaki ones) I love them really hard and they're only $8 for this massive pack.

P.S. There are never any leftovers hehehe
